Korea is set to launch its first ever completely domestically-developed multipurpose satellite into space in a few months. The Korea Aerospace Research Institute says the Arirang 3A, developed by Korean companies in cooperation with the institute, will blast off from a launch site in Russia early next year. The one-ton satellite is equipped with optical and infra-red sensor cameras that will enable Korean researchers to see high-resolution images of the earth even at night. Scientists say that, once deployed, the satellite will orbit at an altitude of 530 kilometers for the next four years.
