Goodyear recently revealed its concept for a spherical tire that uses magnets at the Geneva Motor Show

0:08like kickballs from gym class. Jokes aside, the recent reveal might change the future of
0:13passenger vehicles. They're called Eagle-360 tires and they're designed for use on
0:17autonomous vehicles. So how do you fit a ball into a wheel well? You don't. Eagle-360s float under
0:22the car using magnetic fields, sort of like how Maglev trains levitate.
0:26While Goodyear hasn't produced the design yet, the idea would allow for a vehicle to have a full
0:31range of motion and would make parallel parking a piece of cake. The tires will also hug the ground
0:36better with centrifugal force, throwing water away. And they'll be more than just rubber.
0:41Goodyear plans to build technology that will allow the tire to detect road and weather conditions
0:46and adjust speed accordingly. All this adds up to make self-driving cars an interesting proposition.
